Hi guys,
Does anyone out there suffer from psychological impotence?  My  doctors tell me that my problem is between the ears.  I am 36 and  have had this problem for about three years now.  As time has gone  by, my interest in sex had diminished.  I don’t know if the diminshed  sex drive has caused this or if the ED has caused the lack of  interest.  Either way, it is not appreciated.  Viagra works well with  me, but the side effects and lack of spontaneity are very  frustrating.  All my hormone test have come back in the normal range  and my plumbing seems to be ok.    Just curious if anyone else has experienced this side of impotency.

  1. Rick, if you are taking a 100 mg. pill and quartering it, that of course would be 25 mg. So does the Viagra work occasionally? How much time are you allowing for the Viagra to start working in your body? It may take over two hours. Have you tried chewing the Viagra? Don’t eat any snacks after taking the Viagra, but you may drink a cup or two of water. Don’t give up. At 36, you are too young to stop making an effort. Is there E.D. in your family? Father? Grandfather? Can you find out? Why would you think that your E.D. is psychologically-related in that such factors are rare as a cause of the phenomenon? Could the problem be stress-related? Are you under undue stress over other matters at this time in your life? You did not mention whether your wife has had health-related problems during the time of your E.D. Are you a long-distance bicyclist? Have you had problems being unable to ejaculate even after becoming erect? Or have you had premature ejaculations in the past? Eric Remember, don’t give up. Maybe someone on this blog has a possible solution for you.

  2. Hi, Rick, yes, there is psychological impotence, but it is rare, as I understand it, maybe less than 10 percent of the cases of E.D. At one time, it was thought that nearly all E.D. was psychologically- based. Most impotence has a physical cause, and for most men, the drug prescribed is Viagra regardless of the cause. What level of mg. Viagra are you taking? What are your side effects? I have found that with repeated use Viagra side effects subside considerably and are not a problem at all. How often are you having intercourse? Too frequently or too rarely may lead to a loss of erection. Has your wife had any health problems or medication that could be at work here? How is the lubrication? Could your problem be simply too little or too much lubrication.

Is your desire still strong? It should be at 36, that is really young. What about your wife’s desire? Is she losing interest in intercourse? Are you varying your lovemaking techniques. Is your penis erecting in a normal amount of time, or do you require continued hand stimulation to produce an erection? What about natural erections during the night? Aren’t these common with you? It is said that if one has erections throughout the night, the “plumbing” is essentially in order. Answer these questions, and we may find a solution for you. Have you consulted a doctor?

You must have, if you have a Viagra prescription. I assume that the doctor examined your penis, testicles, prostate, etc.

  3. I belive I am taking 25 mg. I take one pill and quarter it. The side effects I have are headache, stuffy nose, and my face flushes. I have erections during the night. When I try for an erection on my own, it takes much stimulation and as soon as I stop, I lose it. Everything I have has been examined by a doctor and everything is normal. My desire used to be very strong, but now it’s like “what’s the point”. That of course compounds the problem and affects intercourse frequency with my wife.
